I recently had a holiday in Greece and this was taken from a place called Acharavi where my girlfriend and I had stopped for a drink to watch the sun set as we were on our way to have dinner.

I know there are millions of photos like this but I just love the colours in the sky and couldn’t resist posting it. More from the trip to come soon.

Belsay Quarry Gardens

This was taken last weekend on a trip to Belsay Hall in Northumberland.  Apart from the Quarry Gardens there’s also an English Heritage hall to visit, which currently has exhibitions of artists such as Ron Mueck with his hyper-realistic sculptures.

The River Tyne, Alight

I used to share a flat in Gateshead with Mike Pentney (filumcutter.co.uk) and we were often treated to a view like this in the evening.

Right in the centre of the picture is the Metrocentre shopping centre to give you an idea where we are looking here.

It’s nice to see a shot of the Tyne without the bridges, just for a change.

The Famous Bavarian Castle

This is the famous castle Neuschwanstein in Bavaria, Germany.  It is apparently the castle which inspired Disney’s slightly more famous version.  It is  a spectacular place to visit and an amazing example of the lengths people have always gone to to show off and try to show that they are better than their neighbours.

Well worth a visit if you find yourself in that part of the world.

Frozen in time

Frozen in time by my camera, you get to see what you would normally miss in this shot.  One of the more magical things about photography is this unique ability and that’s one of the reasons I love this photo.

The water was beautiful when I was there but seeing it like this gives the chance to examine it in more detail and even to see shapes, colours and textures, that you might otherwise be blind to, after the event when you’re home and sitting at the computer.

The glass-like look and colours of the light never fail to intrigue me, however many times I see it.

Mushrooms shot at home

I picked up these mushrooms at the local supermarket and shot them really simply on the dining table in my flat with a desk lamp and some black foam board.  Just goes to show you don’t always need tons of expensive equipment to get an interesting shot.

The Gas Mask

This is a photo from the making of a filum – ‘War Pigs’ to accompany Cake’s version of the famous Black Sabbath track.

Shot in the dark basement of a (then) favourite pub in Newcastle while we were filming down there.

This is a reporter who’s covering the news of an impending apocalypse — you’ll have to watch the filum to see more!

Director Alex Nichol gives actor Colin Cuthbert some direction when it comes to drowning.  This was all for a 24 hour film challenge that I was privileged enough to be a part of.

More than a little serendipitous, I had set a longer exposure to let the ship in the background of this shot light up in the picture and as it was taken some sailors heading back to their ship for the night wandered past, oblivious to me and my camera.

The long exposure gave them a great ghostly look and I ended up with a shot with a lot more character than I would have if they hadn’t been passing.

Right place at the right time!
